Makeup

Since the ancient times, and in different cultures and civilizations throughout the world, women’s attention have been captivated by things that make them look beautiful and feel good.  Today, women are more obsessed with beauty than ever before.  A woman’s personal beauty regime is a daily routine and women set aside money as a matter of priority for cosmetics.

Women and the $445 billion beauty industry

Women’s search for the best beauty products to make them look and smell good has led more and more women to become beauty entrepreneurs.  According to Forbes, the beauty industry is a $445 billion (annual sales) industry.

The beauty industry economically empowers women throughout the world.    There are prominent beauty startups today founded by women.  Many women who self-started in the industry have become multi-millionaires.  Beauty companies like Grace Cosmetics that use network marking model to distribute their products have given the business opportunity to many women to build wealth.

What is makeup and cosmetics?

Cosmetics applied to the face to enhance its appearance are often call make-up or makeup.  Common cosmetics include lipstick, mascara, eye shadow, foundation, concealer, rouge, skin cleansers and skin lotions, shampoo, hair care products, perfume and cologne.

Government regulatory bodies regulate the production of cosmetics.  In the U.S, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulates cosmetics.  The FDA defines cosmetics as “intended to be applied to the human body for cleansing, beautifying, promotion attractiveness, or altering the appearance without affecting the body’s structure or functions”

Cosmetics can be classified into six main categories:

  • Face and nail
  • Hair care and hairdressing products
  • Oral and dental hygiene
  • Perfumes
  • Personal hygiene
  • Skin care

What motivates women to wear makeup?

I’ve heard people who oppose makeup say that women should be comfortable in their own skin.  In their opinion, women who wear makeup lack self-confidence, self-esteem, are insecure and even attention-seeking.

I’m a Grace beauty coach and I’ve worked with many women customers in the last 10 years.  I listen to what women say and I love seeing women in their makeup.  They look awesome.  I myself don’t wear makeup everyday or regularly but only on special occasions.  To wear makeup or not is really a personal choice.

A personal choice – to feel good

Women wear makeup for themselves, not to please someone else.  They want to look beautiful and feel good.  Women, and every human being for that matter, are beautiful with or without makeup because true beauty comes from deep within a person’s soul.  Women who wear makeup derive benefits of increased self-confidence and self-esteem.

Makeup is an expressive and creativity art

Women wear makeup as a form of creativity and expression.  Just as you take a plain picture and edit it with different photo-editing tools to change its appearance and make it look beautiful, women can spend a lot of time in front of the vanity mirror to try different colors for their makeup.  They are creative and love what they do.

Just as the artist use the paintbrush to add definition, color and a story to a painting, or face painting for special occasions, choosing what colors and shades to add to the makeup, and what lipstick to wear is a form of art.

Makeup hides blemishes and enhances our features

Makeup helps us to hide blemishes and things we can not correct on our own.  For example, acne scars can be bad and stressful for young women.  Makeup can help hide that for a day so you don’t attract the attention of people staring at your face.  Makeup enhances beauty and makes women look younger, with that youthful attractiveness.

Strategic self-presentation

I’ve seen my clients wearing makeup have this aura of self-confidence and they have more social interactions and acceptance.  For interview and special occasions, they look presentable and pretty.  The confidence, self-esteem and self-love boost comes feeling good and beautiful.

Hire a makeup artist or DIY?

Makeup is an art.  As such, there are professional makeup artists who use makeup products, tools and techniques to transform and enhance a person’s appearance.  You can hire a makeup artist or simply be creative and Do It Yourself (DIY).  Check out my articles on DIY makeup tips.

If you are applying the makeup yourself, one of the essential items you must have for your daily beauty regime is a makeup vanity mirror, most preferably the vanity mirror with lights.  Applying makeup is something you do meticulously.  You need a mirror specifically designed to apply makeup, with the correct amount of lighting, so you don’t end up looking like a joke when you go out.

Natural makeup products

I use and promote natural makeup products.  There are many benefits of using natural and organic products, which are products produced in a sustainable and environmentally-friendly manner without the used of toxic chemicals nor harm to plants, animals, environment and human beings.  With a wide range of cosmetics products on the market today, you can choose to use all natural foundation, concealer, mascara, lipstick, blush and eye makeup products (eye liner, eye shadow and mascara).
